The present book is the Kitabu l-Iman, the chapter on Iman, which was taken from the well-known work al-Musannaf by the scholar Ibnu Abi Schaybah (235 AH) and translated directly from Arabic into German.
Much has been and continues to be said and debated about the authentic and genuine foundations of Islam's beliefs. These debates are often characterized by profound disagreement and a lack of knowledge about the source texts of Islam and have therefore often failed before they even began. In very rare cases, people reflect on the statements and understanding of those early Muslim scholars who were recognized for their good understanding of Islamic teachings and who still are today.
The author of this work, Ibnu Abi Schaybah, also experienced disagreements in his time regarding the fundamental beliefs of Islam and in particular regarding the question of what Iman is and what actually constitutes it – these disagreements continue to exist to this day and have even intensified.
This work is a collection of numerous traditions on the subject of Iman, compiled by Ibnu Abi Shaybah, and intended to contribute to a better understanding of this core theme of Islam. It provides a very insightful insight into the understanding of the early scholars of Islam and was also conceived by its author as a clear demarcation of the authentic teachings of Islam from the erroneous opinions of sects professing Islam, in particular the so-called Khawarij and Murjiah.
